We at MTR believe that market timing is the key to successful investing. This is why we focus exclusively on our market timing models. When we are ready to purchase stocks or venture away from our ETF method of investing we go to some of the best stock research sites on the web.

When we buy stocks we only buy the best. We do not buy OTC, Penny Stocks, high P/Es, or stocks that have negative earnings. This basic criteria means that you can pick stocks using much of the research on the web site.

Lets talk Stock Research

Microsoft Money: This is by far the absolute best free financial web site. Compare it to anything else Bloomberg, CNBC, Google, Yahoo! you will see MSN Money is the best.

Stock Research Tools: MSN has a huge toolbox of stock tools. The best FREE stock screener on the web.

StockScouter: Do you want to know if a stock you are interested in is a good investment? Lets see what Stock Scouter says about Microsoft. It rates the stock a 9 out of 10, 10 being the best. This is not because MSN Money is Microsoft's site. I have seen the stock with a lower rating.

This data is provided by Gradient Analytics, Inc and is just one small feature of StockScouter. You can go through various pages that show expected returns, year or year earnings, and more.

In addition to StockScouter you can look at Gradient Analytics' top portfolio recommendations for ideas on what to BUY and even on what to SHORT. Yes, look at the lowest rated stock for shorting opportunities! Very nice!

Let's Talk More Stock Research!

MarketGrader at TradeKing: The basic MarketGrader system is available for free if you have an Account at TradeKing. You do not get the search tools for MarketGrader but you do get the stock market report feature. We will look at Microsoft (MSFT) again to see what MarketGrader has to say about it. There are also ETFs traded based on the MarketGrader Indexes. More about that in another post.

The screen shot below is from a very detailed PDF report on MSFT and rates the stock as a BUY.

The MarketGrader screen shot below is a fundamental snapshot of MSFT and shows very high grades for the stock.

Yes, Even More Stock Research!

Fidelity.com: Fidelity has by far the most and best free stock research. You get information from Ned Davis, Standard and Poors Portfolios, Decision Economics, Zacks, and many more! Just open an account. Fidelity even has a stock screener where you can search for stocks based on ratings from the research companies featured on the site.

In summary: There are many services paid and otherwise that provide stock ratings, picks, and reviews. The key to successful investing is market timing and selecting stocks with great fundamentals, good valuations, and prospects for future growth.
